We do from time to time receive requests for custom designed X member kits. Canadian, Len L' Hereux is by far one very different request. He was in the process of building a chassis for his wife’s 1929 Essex coupe last winter. With a rough sketch of the frame rails and information about the engine/trans combo, we designed an X member kit to fit his needs.
The frame rails of the Essex are parallel and very narrow, with only 25" between the rails. The other design concern was the rails are not very tall. Very comparable to the frames of a Model A frame rail in height.
Len was slipping into that narrow space a big block Chevy coupled to a 700R4 trans. He wanted the X member to have a trans mount, and a set of upper and lower main rails.
